Mares

Westfalen mare lines are treasured for the consistent quality they produce. Mares bring more to the breeding equation than the stallion - and an emphasis on mare rideability and performance cannot be overstated.

Mare Inspections are the first step in identifying strengths and weaknesses in a breeding population of broodmares. Next comes the Mare Performance Test, where young mares are evaluated at liberty, free jumping, and under saddle both under their usual rider and a test rider.

Westfalen mares who are eligible by pedigree for Mare Book I can earn Verband Premium status by earning inspection scores averaging 7.3 or above. Elite Status can be earned with a combination of Verband Premium at inspection, a succesful passing score at a mare performance test, and the production of one foal. Pradikat Sport status may be earned by successes in the show ring. In North America, Mare Performance Tests are offered at select Westfalen inspection sites, and results from other recognized registries (such as American Hanoverian Society or German Oldenburg) Mare Performance Tests are also accepted.

The Westfalen Warmblood mare books are open to mares registered in recognized Warmblood breeding organizations, as well as Thoroughbreds, Arabians, Anglo and Shagya Arabians.
